How does the VIN308RP compare to the TIL308?

The VIN308RP is fully pin compatible with the TIL308, but some functions differ as follows.  The lower 10 (0-9) BCD inputs display the same on the VIN308RP as the TIL308.  The upper hex inputs display the letters A-F, where the TIL308 displayed A "minus" C "blank" E F, the VIN308RP doesn't have the latched BCD data available as outputs, and there is no blanking function.

Does the VIN308RP really work as a substitute for the TIL308?

Can I use the VIN308RP as a substitute for the TIL308 in all electronics equipment using the TIL308?

Generally yes, but you'll notice the VIN308RP has a slightly different overall shape and size than the TIL308.  While this difference appears exaggerated in the close up photos. we provide on this website, this should not be a problem for most customers as pins of the VIN308RP were specifically designed to fit in the 16 pin sockets designed for the TIL308.   However, because the TIL308 is used in a wide variety of electronics equipment, many of which were custom built, it is possible that the difference in shape could be a problem if the design of your particular equipment does not have enough space tolerance.  Check your equipment and the VIN308RP datasheet on this site to make sure the VIN308RP will physically fit in the equipment in which you intend to use it.  If you think there might be an issue, we do have the original TIL308 LEDs available as well.
